Acting Principal's Message
Kia ora koutou,
Today’s newsletter is packed with useful information for our whānau, with a few highlights being:
- Acknowledgement of our awesome PTA
- Free used plastic chairs available
- Dates for your calendar
I want to start by saying a massive thank you to our AMAZING PTA, who held a Rock’n Bingo Fundraiser over the weekend. They are a small but highly efficient crew of wonderful humans. The amount of volunteer hours that goes into organising an event like this is huge so please know that we appreciate all that you do. A big thank you also to our parent community who supported this event either by donating towards the auction items, raffle, food platters or attending on the night. It was a highly entertaining evening and the generosity shown was next level. Ngā mihi nui koutou!
Last week our Student Councillors met with two representatives from Heart Kids Wellington, Angela and Rebecca, to hand over the funds raised on Little Heart Day. Angela and Rebecca shared the type of support that Heart Kids Wellington provides for families of children with heart conditions and our councillors got the opportunity to ask questions to learn more. Heart Kids were very grateful for your support.
Great news! Nicola Jarvis has been appointed as the classroom teacher of our Term 4 new entrant class. Nicola is currently teaching in Rm 21 for Term 3, so she’s already a part of the PBS teaching team and known within our community.
Room 29 has now relocated to Rm 17 in preparation for their classroom refurbishment. This project started yesterday and you will see that fencing has been erected around the classes next to the hall.
We have a stack of 25 surplus used plastic chairs available. If you’d like one or some or know of an organisation that might have a use for them, please contact the school office.
And finally, if you are looking for our office team, they are now back up and running in the Administration block.
Have a great week everyone!
Noho ora mai rā, nā
Sarah Chambers, Acting Principal

ACTING PRINCIPAL’S GREAT NEWS CORNER:
Sharing good news spreads positivity, changes attitudes and ultimately leads to more people feeling encouraged and happy
Matilda and May shared their retelling of the Māori legend Te Ika a Maui/The fish of Maui. I was impressed with their writing and the accompanying illustration. The girls also read the story with lovely pronunciation and expression. Kapai korua!

School Gates
During the school day, from 9am-3pm, it is very important that our school gates remain closed. When entering or leaving the school grounds during these hours, please make sure that you close the gates behind you. This is a safety measure for our newest little PBS students who are still learning to navigate the playground and familiarise themselves with the environment. Thank you.
Using Māori Language at Home
Learning another language provides many benefits including greater academic achievement, greater cognitive development, and more positive attitudes towards other languages and cultures. So, let’s give it a go and help to revitalise this unique language to Aotearoa for our tamariki. Each week our newsletter will include words or phrases that you might like to try out at your kāinga/home.
