TEN SLEEPS TO GO!

Ten sleeps till what I hear you ask?

Ten sleeps until our School Picnic and FUN RUN (Friday next week – 31 March).

Just like our wonderful Matariki night last year, I love opportunities which bring our families together.  It’s so nice for our kids to see their whānau and school staff interacting in less formal situations. It’s also great to have parents and extended family on site as the kids are proud to share their school environment with you.

Our PTA (Parent Teacher Association) have planned a fun-packed event for everyone, so no doubt lots of laughter will be heard.  Our Fun Run, which will take place during the school day, will involve obstacles, fire hoses, a slip n slide, a colour run and slime!!!

My advice to kids: “Keep your mouths closed when you run!”

My advice to staff: “Stand back or bring your OWN change of clothes!”

Then from 4pm to 7.30pm kids and families can return to school for more fun including, a bouncy obstacle course, a lolly scramble, playground fun and food stalls.

My advice to parents: “Bring cash to spend!”

See you there 🙂

PRINCIPAL’S GREAT NEWS CORNER

Sharing good news spreads positivity, changes attitudes and ultimately leads to more people feeling encouraged and happy

PEDAL READY: The Pedal Ready programme is once again proving to be incredibly beneficial. Our Year 5-6 students  are loving the new skills they are learning.  Watching self confidence and independence blossom in these young riders is fantastic. Huge thanks to the providers who are helping keep our kids safe and road-wise.  See pictures below.

SURPRISE SHOW: Tomorrow the New Zealand Opera is performing “Sleeping Beauty” at PBS! The cost of this show is being covered by a music grant donated by Stanley Goodright.  Frances Moore, daughter of former PBS teacher Colleen Moore, made special arrangements to squeeze PBS in – Thanks Frances!!

I’d imagine not many of our students would have attended an operatic performance before, so we’re delighted all our students will get to experience this first hand.  The New Zealand Opera are touring schools nationwide, with this show created specifically for a student audience. Lucky us!

Ngā mihi nui,

Using Māori Language at Home

Learning another language provides many benefits including greater academic achievement, greater cognitive development, and more positive attitudes towards other languages and cultures. So, let’s give it a go and help to revitalise this unique language to Aotearoa for our tamariki. Each week our newsletter will include words or phrases that you might like to try out at your kāinga/home.

Adult Classes in Te Reo Māori

Are you interested in learning te reo Māori? PBS could have a free opportunity for you!

You may have heard of the training programme called “Te Ahu o te Reo Māori”. This course has been offered free to educators since 2020, but last year it opened enrolments to schools’ parents as well.

Our local providers, Kāuru, have offered us the opportunity to host afternoon/evening classes on site at PBS! This is such a great opportunity for anyone who wants to learn te reo. The course itself consists of a weekly 2 hour class for 20 weeks. Shortly we will finalise the day/time for these sessions, after which we will send out the registration information.

NB: In order to run this class Kāuru needs us to register 30 participants.

Kid's Quote

A thoughtful 10 year old shared this great wisdom … “One good thing can lead to a thousand good things!”

School Photos - Next Week

School photos will be taken next week for Yrs 3-8 students and touch rugby teams.  Normally family/sibling photographs are taken after the oldest child’s class photograph, however parents are welcome to bring their children in before school on either day or specify on the sibling request card which day they would like this photograph taken on.

See the example below for instructions on ordering/paying for photos.

Gear Bags
On doing a gear bag stocktake we seem to be missing one bag. The bag is for a Year 3 team. If you coached a Year 3 team last year or 2021 can you please check if you still have it? The bag is labelled “PBS Diamonds”.

Coaches
If you are interested in coaching this year please contact the school. At this stage, we need coaches for all year levels.

Asthma in NZ Survey

Help us find out more about your experience, or your child’s experience with asthma.
